Supporting customers to keep their homes

We’re recruiting a Tenancy Support Worker in the Community Support team. Their priority is to ensure customers get the right support to a secure long-term tenancy. Here’s what Andrew in the team has to say about this role:

“I’ve been in this role for two years and cover Nottingham City and Derbyshire. We are here to help our customers when life gets challenging and their tenancy is at risk. We visit people living in their own homes to empower them to make the right choices to maintain their tenancy and maximise their income.

“It is important that we build trust and maintain effective contact with customers, so we can provide the support that is required. This can include help with dealing with rent arrears, claiming the right benefits and budgeting to ensure rent is paid on time. We have seen some very positive outcomes which is really rewarding. We really can make a difference to people’s lives.

“As you’ll be visiting people in their homes, you’ll be passionate about helping people and building relationships. It’s important that you are respectful and sensitive to their needs. You’ll also be happy working independently, as most of your time will be spent out of the office on visits.

“Above all, we’re looking for people who’ll put the person they support first. That means being patient, supportive and communicate effectively with them to ensure the best outcomes.

“A driving license is essential in this role, as you will be travelling to people’s homes (sometimes more than once in a day). While having a good understanding of housing and welfare benefits is required, NCHA do provide training necessary to do the job.”
