Celebrating 30 years in housing

Debra celebrates 30 years of service. She is a popular member of the housing team and has gained loads of knowledge and expertise. She always has wonderful stories, wise advice and anecdotes from her experiences and is such a great colleague. Here’s what she has to say about her 30 years of working in housing.

“I’ve been here for 30 years and it’s gone by in the blink of an eye!”

“I started my time here in the Finance department supporting our projects. I built a wonderful rapport with my colleagues in the housing team and had always aspired to join their team.

“So in 2000, I applied for the job as Housing Assistant and after a short period I was promoted to Housing Officer. I got a lot of pleasure and job satisfaction from this role and from helping our customers.

“However, after 21 years of working in this role, I decided the time was right to take on a new challenge and to further broaden my existing housing knowledge. So I joined the Homeownership team where I am responsible for looking after our leaseholder queries. I am always learning and developing my skills, I feel valued and have shared new ways of working in the team. I take pride in the work we do and enjoy helping and supporting people.

“It really is a great place to work. I’ve enjoyed singing in the NCHA band, joined many social gatherings and helped out at gardening projects and community events. As a company they really encourage colleagues to socialise and I have met some real characters that have really made laugh.”

Whilst she has seen many people come and go, Debra has been a loyal and dedicated member of staff working full-time throughout her career. But after 30 years of service, Debra isn’t ready to move on yet. “I am really grateful to NCHA for supporting me and my family for all these years. They have provided me with a safe and stable career for all these years.”

Working in housing is not just about the bricks and mortar - it’s about making a positive difference to people’s lives, their communities, and their life chances by providing them with a decent home and environment in which to live.
