The journey to environmental sustainability
Throughout his career, Paul Moat, our Chief Executive has taken pride in seeing early environmental and sustainability ambitions grow into key corporate objectives.
Long before it was as topical and urgent as it is now, we had a keen interest in environmental issues, recognising the impact that the performance of our homes and buildings have on the planet.
In 2002, we were one of the first housing associations in the region to install photovoltaic cells on the roofs of new homes. This was just the beginning of a twenty year journey to becoming a more sustainable organisation.
Our key environmental sustainability targets are:
- By 2024 we will reduce our carbon footprint by 50%
- By 2027 we will have produced a 10% biodiversity net gain
- By 2028 all our homes will have EPC rating A-C
- By 2050 we will be a net zero organisation.

Whilst NCHA can't change the environmental footprint of the whole country, we can make a big difference in our region – and we should.
