Getting repairs in order
Following Andrew Malone, Mike Andrews became NCHA’s second Chief Executive in 2007 after spending 19 years as Director of Housing. Mike was instrumental in the decision to bring property repairs in-house, starting with three men and two electric vans.
Our Property Services team of three started with electric vans, the first on the streets of Nottingham at that time.
Now the team employs over 100 operatives in a broad range of trades, including heating, electrical, joinery and decorating.
Looking to grow their team and share knowledge from the inside, in 2022 we launched an apprenticeship programme. This was targeted at people interested in working in property maintenance services.
I was delighted to see our early ambitions become a reality when the association built its first scheme of houses in Ollerton from start to finish.
I’ve no doubt that wouldn’t have happened if we didn’t have three men and two electric vans thirty years ago.
