Affordable countryside living
Shared ownership is an affordable way to buy a home of your own. NCHA's customers have written about their experiences in a series of case studies, to explain what shared ownership has done for them.
Thanks to shared ownership Amy and her partner Stephan were able to buy a new house in the countryside.
They moved into their new two-bedroom detached home in Corby Glen in December 2023. Corby Glen is a quintessential English village set in the Lincolnshire countryside, situated between Stamford and Grantham. It's perfect for their lifestyle, with welcoming country pubs and countryside walks for their well-behaved dog Lottie.
Amy said: “My partner and I moved back to Grantham after working in New Zealand for three years. We started looking for a new home in May 2023. If we were to buy a property outright, the cheapest option in the area was a terraced house with a small garden and on-street parking, which needed a lot of money spending on it.
“We came across these shared ownership homes in Corby Glen which were being advertised by NCHA. We knew the area already, it was close to the countryside for our dog walks and they were new build homes, which meant we wouldn’t need to be spending money on any maintenance.
“We already knew about shared ownership so decided to apply and we got accepted for a 35% share. The house is valued at £225,000 and we paid £78,750 for our share. We also pay a monthly rent of £335 to NCHA. We plan to buy more shares in the future as we’d like to own the house outright eventually.
“These new homes are fitted with air source heat pumps. The temperatures outside have been bitter recently but the house has always felt warm and cosy. We are so pleased we had a demonstration and we are looking forward to seeing how they perform over the coming months.
“This is our forever home, we’ve always dreamed of living in the countryside. It’s all about quality of life for us and we are so happy we found this shared ownership home.”
