From Support Worker to Community Co-ordinator

Meet Hannah

Hannah joined NCHA in September 2025 as a Support Worker at Bridge Street. While she loved making a difference to people's lives, she knew she wanted to continue developing her career. Thanks to the opportunities available at NCHA, she has recently taken the next step and joined the Community South team as a Community Co-ordinator.

Despite having no previous housing experience, Hannah has been supported every step of the way. Through training, shadowing experienced colleagues and learning on the job, she has quickly developed the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in her new role.

"I loved my role as a Support Worker, but I wanted a new challenge. One of the great things about NCHA is that there are so many opportunities to develop and progress your career."

As a Community Co-ordinator, Hannah manages a patch covering part of Leicester city centre and surrounding towns. Being from Leicestershire herself, she particularly enjoys working in communities she knows well and feels connected to.

Having studied Psychology at university, Hannah has always been passionate about working with people. Many of the skills she developed as a Support Worker have transferred naturally into her new role, particularly building relationships, understanding individual needs and helping people access the support they need.

Each day is different, which is one of the things Hannah enjoys most.

Hannah said: "I like a challenge, and no two days are the same. I meet a wide variety of people and help them maintain successful tenancies with NCHA. It's really rewarding to see the difference you can make."

A key part of Hannah's role is helping customers sustain their tenancies by providing advice, guidance and referrals to specialist support services when needed. She works closely with colleagues across NCHA, including teams that support customers experiencing issues such as anti-social behaviour or domestic abuse, helping to create a strong network of support.

The independence of the role was another big attraction. "Community Co-ordinators manage their own diaries and organise their own visits, which I really enjoy,” Hannah explains. “At the same time, the team is incredibly supportive. Everyone is always willing to help and share their knowledge.

"I've learned so much already about the importance of empathy in this role. Building trust with customers and supporting them through different stages of their tenancy is one of the most rewarding parts of the job."

For anyone considering a career at NCHA, Hannah's story shows that you don't need previous housing experience to succeed. With the right attitude, a passion for helping people and a willingness to learn, there are plenty of opportunities to grow and develop your career with us.
