We’re investing in apprenticeship schemes

We’re pleased to welcome two new colleagues to our Property Maintenance Operative Apprenticeship programme.

Harry Walton and Sam Cooper joined us this year to complete a 12-month apprenticeship, where they will learn a range of skills. These include plumbing, painting, joinery and plastering, before moving on to their chosen specialist trade.

Harry explained why he decided to pursue an apprenticeship with NCHA: “I like the idea of being paid while learning, and NCHA seemed like a great place to do that. The managers have already been really supportive, helping me balance work and college.”

Sam agreed: “It’s a great way to gain a recognised qualification while building practical experience. I’m looking forward to developing my skills, especially in joinery, and meeting new people.”

Sam and Harry will attend Access Training, a training provider co-owned by NCHA, once a fortnight to receive practical training. They will spend the remainder of their time working with our Property Services team and learning on the job.

To help them get off to a strong start, they were each presented with a professional toolkit from NCHA’s new business partner, Travis Perkins Managed Services.

As the UK’s largest distributor of building materials, Travis Perkins Managed Services will supply parts and materials for our repair services through its dedicated ordering app.

This helps ensure our colleagues have the materials they need when they need them. It will also make it easier to replenish stock, supporting our ambition to complete repairs right first time.

Scott Armitage, Assistant Director of Property Services, said: “I’d like to thank Travis Perkins Managed Services for providing our apprentices with toolkits as they begin their careers with NCHA. It’s important that we continue to create opportunities for young people while building resilience and developing skills for the future.”

Lewis Shaw, Regional Operations Manager at Travis Perkins Managed Services, said: “This partnership will help improve efficiency for NCHA while supporting a better service for customers.

“We’re delighted to provide the apprentices with their toolkits. We understand the value of apprenticeships and the important role they play in developing the next generation of skilled professionals.”
