Flood resilience for the future

As part of our flood resilience policy, Chris Pryke-Hendy, NCHA’s Head of Sustainability, visited Parliament last week to discuss the ways we can better protect our communities from the impacts of climate change through policy review.

On his talks with government leaders, Chris said: “The round-table discussion, Chaired by Lee Pitcher MP, explored how we can work together to build flood resilience. It’s believed that one-in-four homes could be at risk of flooding by 2050, and so we need to act now to help keep our customers and homes safe.”

Improving flood resilience for customers

When floodwater enters a home, it can cause damage to buildings, destroy personal belongings, put residents’ safety at risk and affect people’s mental wellbeing.

We’re working collaboratively with Nottingham County Council (NCC) to improve the flood resilience of 12 NCHA customer homes that have flooded in the past few years.

These works, delivered through NCC’s contractors, Whitehouse Construction, are part of the council’s investment to reduce the impact of surface water flooding on homes.

In addition to these works, we’ve developed these online flood resources to help customers prepare for and respond to flooding should it occur in their home.
