The benefits of improved insulation
We’re pleased to say we’ve added new home insulation for our first wave of customer homes in Nottinghamshire.
Around 50 customer homes with an energy efficiency rating less than ‘EPC band C’ have so far received free insulation upgrades. The aim is to keep homes warmer for longer, using less energy.
Thanks to funding from the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund, we’re gearing up to roll out this offer for around 300 further homes in Nottinghamshire.
We caught up with NCHA customer Chris Stephenson, from Ollerton, to find out how she’s enjoying her new upgrades. Chris lives with her husband Bill in their home that’s almost 100 years old.
Led by our contractor Westville, we carried out works ranging from loft and external wall insulation as well as the installation of new doors and windows. We also added new fans to improve ventilation and help prevent damp and mould.
‘It looks lovely now’
Chris said: “Everything has been renewed. Marvellous stuff! There was only a tiny bit of thin insulation in the loft to begin with, so they added a good few inches of insulation for better heat retention. They even dug a few inches down all the way around the house to put in stone for better drainage.
“It looks like a totally different house from outside, and the team cleaned up nice and tidy once they’d finished.
“It’s a 97-year-old house and so the walls didn’t look great with mismatching bricks. The team made a beautiful job of the outside cladding, with a lovely render finish that looks like brick effect. It looks so lovely now – like a new house!”
Feeling the benefits
“It’s much warmer already,” said Chris. “We’re feeling the benefit of the house being lovely and warm. I would say to anyone who’s eligible to have it done – it looks like a new-build again, but it’s the improved heating that’s going to make the real difference.”
