Improved insulation works underway for customers
NCHA’s ‘Retrofit’ team has been out in force this month as improved insulation works are now in full swing for customers in Nottinghamshire.
Improving energy efficiency
We are delivering works to increase energy efficiency in some of our customers’ homes with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) lower than ‘band C’.
Our aim is to keep homes warmer for longer using less energy, and the upgrade is completely free for the customer.
These works, known as ‘retrofitting’, include external wall insulation, improving loft insulation and, where needed, replacing windows and doors. We will also be improving ventilation, to ensure good internal air quality and help keep homes free of damp and mould.
Progress and timescales
We’re well underway with 'wave 1' of this energy efficiency project, thanks to our dedicated contractors Westville and Surefire.
Westville has already begun work on 30 homes in Ollerton and Rhodesia; whilst Surefire will begin work on a further 30 homes in Nottingham city from May.
Thanks to additional co-funding worth £4.2million from the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF), a second wave of works will begin later this year to bring 300 more homes up to EPC ‘band C’.
‘Customers at the forefront’
Jen Wilson, our volunteer customer retrofit champion, is assisting the project team and keeping an eye on the quality of the work. She explained: “These insulation works will have such a positive impact for people, particularly during the cost of living crisis.
“The homes will be warmer in the winter and should bring people’s energy bills down. It’s really exciting to see the project progressing, and I can’t wait to come back in a few months’ time to see the difference the insulation has made.”
Matt Score, Retrofit Manager, added: “It’s so great having Jen on board. She’s a great advocate for the work we’re doing, checking up on quality, and letting customers know what the work is all about.”
Works will be completed over the next five years, and we’ll soon be writing again to the customers who have already had surveys completed.
