Report a change of circumstances

Housing costs and Universal Credit

If you claim Universal Credit, you need to tell the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) when there are changes to your housing costs. We will send you a letter with information about the changes. Please follow the instructions on the letter about when and how to report your changes to the DWP.

Reporting changes to your housing costs

Online claims

Login to your Universal Credit account and check your 'to do' list. You will need to report the change via a 'confirm your housing costs' to-do.

You should do this on or after the date given in your letter. Please do not try to report your new charges early as you will not be able to do so.

Telephone claims

You will be contacted by the DWP about your Universal Credit claim, usually by text or a phone call.

They will ask you for information about the new charges - these will be listed in your letter, so please keep it somewhere easy to find. You will be asked to tell them the new rent and service charge amounts, and the dates on which those changes take effect.

Please do not try to report your new charges early as you will not be able to do so.
