Old Whittington, Chesterfield
Coming early 2027
Work has officially begun on a new affordable housing development in Old Whittington, Chesterfield, bringing 22 high‑quality homes to the area.
The development will feature a mix of one‑bed flats and two‑ and three‑bed houses. Each home will meet EPC A standards, incorporating enhanced PV panels, upgraded insulation and modern heating controls. Every property will also benefit from its own EV charging point.
Well positioned with excellent transport links, nearby green spaces and essential amenities within walking distance, the new homes offer an ideal location for local residents. Six of the properties will be available for shared ownership, enabling buyers to purchase a share of a home and pay affordable rent on the remainder, with the flexibility to increase their share over time until they own the property outright. The remaining 16 homes will be available for social rent via Chesterfield Borough Council’s waiting list.

What is shared ownership?
Shared ownership is another way to buy your own home. You buy a percentage, and pay rent on the rest. The housing association owns part of it - but you're living there, you decorate it, and you decide when to sell.
Buying a percentage means a smaller deposit and smaller mortgage. It's a sooner first step on the ladder for lots of people. Usually, you can also carry on buying shares, to own it 100%.
The properties are sold on a 990 year shared ownership lease.
Who qualifies?
Anyone who does not currently own or part own a property and has a household income of less than £80,000 per year can apply.
