Wayne first moved into one of NCHA’s services in 2012. He had been living with his parents in the Strelley area of Nottingham, but as he was approaching 30, he was ready to spread his wings and move out of the family home.

Wayne's path to independence

After a few years Wayne was ready for more independence, and he was lucky enough to be transferred to a one-bedroom flat where he is entirely self-contained.

'My own space'

Wayne says: “I knew I needed my own space to develop my own independence and skills. Thanks to the help I’ve received to get here, I’ve been able to reduce number of hours I’m supported too, but it’s good to know staff are always available if I need them.”

Wayne was fortunate to be placed in a home close to his family and so he’s able to see them regularly. His mum and stepdad are just a short walk away, and his sister Louisa is nearby too. He enjoys seeing them for long walks or sharing family mealtimes.

Wayne keeps himself busy with volunteer work. In the past he’s carried out litter picking for the council, helped with campaign work for the Labour party, worked in a local café and volunteered in charity shops too.

Outside of work, Wayne enjoys watching Marvel movies and football. He says:“I’m a big fan of the England Lionnesses. I’d encourage anyone to give them a go and watch a game. I think they play much better than the men’s team, and they win trophies too!” Wayne is also an aspiring musician and enjoys writing song lyrics. He’s working on a project with two friends at the moment to producing trance music tracks.

We wish Wayne every success for his future!
