We're building more homes in Chesterfield
Work has officially begun on a new affordable housing development in Old Whittington, Chesterfield, bringing 22 high‑quality homes to the area. Following the successful delivery of new affordable homes off Swaddale Avenue in Chesterfield in 2025, we're set to deliver another much‑needed development for the local community.
Located off Station Lane, the one‑acre site, formerly home to the Old Whittington Miners Welfare building and bowling green, will be transformed into a thoughtfully designed residential scheme designed by our in-house architects, Pelham and built by MyPad.
The development will feature a mix of one‑bed flats and two‑ and three‑bed houses. Each home will meet EPC A standards, incorporating enhanced PV panels, upgraded insulation and modern heating controls. Every property will also benefit from its own EV charging point.
Well positioned with excellent transport links, nearby green spaces and essential amenities within walking distance, the new homes offer an ideal location for local residents. Six of the properties will be available for shared ownership, enabling buyers to purchase a share of a home and pay affordable rent on the remainder, with the flexibility to increase their share over time until they own the property outright. The remaining 16 homes will be available for social rent via Chesterfield Borough Council’s waiting list.
The £4 million development is being delivered with support from Chesterfield Borough Council. To mark the start onsite, Council Leader Cllr Tricia Gilby and Cabinet Member for Housing Cllr Jean Innes joined representatives from NCHA, MyPad and Pelham Architects for a site visit.
Cllr Jean Innes, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for housing, joined the site visit and said: “We are really pleased to see NCHA investing in our borough, our residents and communities once again.
“As a council it is one of our main priorities to increase the number of affordable homes in the area, and having a strong relationship with housing providers like NCHA in helping us to achieve this.
“The new homes will also boast a range of top-rated energy efficient measures, meaning that residents will be able to keep their homes warm throughout the year, whilst keeping energy bills down.”
Simon Henderson, Head Architect for Pelham and NCHA, commented: “At NCHA, we’re committed to delivering high‑quality, affordable homes where they’re needed most, and this development in Old Whittington is another important step towards that goal. By working closely with our partners, we’re creating energy‑efficient homes that offer long‑term value for local people, while supporting the continued growth of a vibrant and sustainable community. We’re proud to be bringing more much‑needed housing to Chesterfield and look forward to seeing these homes make a real difference for the families who will live here.”
The development is supported by funding from Homes England, through our Strategic Partnership for 2021–2028, which aims to deliver affordable housing across the East Midlands.
Completion is expected winter 2026, with applications for shared ownership opening late summer. For more information, visit www.ncha.org.uk or contact NCHA’s Sales team.
