Overdelivering to keep customer homes warmer

As we finish up phase two of our energy efficiency programme, we’re pleased to share our teams have exceeded every major target to boost the energy performance of customer homes.

Delivering more than promised

Our aim was to improve insulation and energy performance in our least efficient customer homes – with upgrades ranging from external wall insulation to solar panels across the communities we support.

Thanks to the dedication of our Retrofit team and the support of our contractor partners, we’ve not only met our commitments – we’ve surpassed them.

Wave two achievements include:

• 318 homes insulated
• 34 homes received minor energy saving upgrades
• £4.3m in grant funding secured
• £1m of NCHA funds saved against our original budget
• More than 92% of our homes are now EPC ‘C’ or above.

These results put us firmly on track to meet the government’s 2030 requirement to get all our homes up to EPC band ‘C’ or above.

Real-world benefits for customers

The positive social impact can be keenly felt in the feedback from customers, who habitually say their homes are warmer and their energy bills are lower following these upgrades.

Customer Mel says: “The new insulation has almost halved my energy bills. I live in an old pit house which usually costs a fortune to heat, but since the insulation works I hardly need to put the heating on now, even in winter. It looks lovely and it’s so much warmer!”

Customer Tash says: “I’ve seen a big difference – the biggest win is my windows don’t cloud up with condensation anymore. They stay dry and fresh. The upgrades have already taken a massive chunk out of my energy bills. My recent monthly bill for gas and electric was £94 – it’s gone down by £54. A phenomenal service. I’m so grateful.”

What’s next

With around 470 homes left to upgrade, wave three of the programme has begun (running until March 2028).

We’ll continue these improvements across all home types to ensure every customer has a warm and sustainable home for generations to come.

Our collaborative approach with our contractor Westville has also earned us two shortlistings at the Efficiency East Midlands Building Communities Awards 2026 – watch this space!
