Have your say on service charges
The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) is the government department responsible for all types of housing, including social housing, shared ownership, leaseholds and new build homes.
They currently have two consultation questionnaires open on issues that will affect landlords, leaseholders and tenants, so if you’re an NCHA customer we’d urge you to have a look and have your say.
Consultations like this can really influence the decisions made at Government level that can have a huge impact on people’s lives, so don’t miss this opportunity to be heard.
Current consultations open
The MHCLG is asking for views on how it should implement parts of the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Act 2024
This Act has some wide-ranging changes which will affect the information NCHA sends to our customers about how we set and collect service charges. The questionnaires are asking for views on the changes that are proposed and for suggestions on how this could be improved.
There are two separate consultations.
Leaseholders and anyone paying a service charge
This questionnaire is here:
If you prefer to respond by email, you send any enquiries or your answers to the questions to protectingleaseholders@communities.gov.uk.
Please note that although this questionnaire title refers to leaseholders, there are questions that are applicable to tenants who rent their home too.
This consultation ends on 26 September 2025.
Social housing tenants
The one for social housing tenants on service charges is here:
The tenant consultation ends on 24 September 2025
Both consultations give you the option to identify that you are responding as an individual, not as a company, business or organisation.
