Get free energy advice and support

You can access energy advice and support for free with ‘Better Housing, Better Health’ (BHBH).

What's BHBH?

The BHBH charity works locally to help improve your warmth and wellbeing at home.

By calling their free helpline (0800 107 0044), you can get advice on any energy related concerns, plus guidance on how to improve the energy efficiency of your home.

You can call the service directly or ask a member of our NCHA team to refer you to BHBH for support. (Please note this service isn’t currently available in Leicestershire, Rutland or Northamptonshire.)

What BHBH covers

Depending on your individual circumstances, BHBH may be able to help with the following:

  • Financial support: The BHBH’s team of experts can help you apply for grants and funding to support your home’s energy needs. For example, they can signpost you to schemes such as the Warm Home Discount, which may take up to £150 off bills (depending on your eligibility). BHBH can assist each customer to access funds up to three times per year.
  • Home efficiency support: BHBH can replace heating systems and install improved insulation in your home. They can also source things such as draft excluders, radiator reflection panels and in some cases dehumidifiers.
  • Home efficiency advice: You can request a free 45-minute training session online and get advice on how to maximise energy efficiency in your home.
  • Free home energy visits: A trained home energy advisor may be able to install free small energy saving measures such as draught-proofing and LED lightbulbs (etc.), and provide advice on bills, debt, and heating systems.

Priority service for eligible customers

If you're of pensionable age, have a long-term medical condition or live with children under five, you may be eligible for the BHBH priority register. This will allow you to get immediate support with issues in your home.
