From Gas Engineer to Technical Inspector

Congratulations to our Technical Inspector Lee on completing a Housing Health and Safety Rating System qualification.

Lee joined NCHA as a gas engineer in November 2023. He’d worked in the field for 20 years but was ready for a change.

Lee says: “I was looking at my options and I had a couple of friends who worked for NCHA already who recommended it to me. They said it was a good place to work with lots of opportunities for development, so I decided to give it a go.”

Although gas was Lee’s trade, he was open-minded about learning new skills and taking on new opportunities.

Lee continues: “I’d been a Gas Engineer with NCHA for less than six months when I saw the position of Technical Inspector advertised. It immediately appealed to me, so I applied and was pleased to be successful.

“Now I’m one of NCHA’s team of Technical Inspectors and I spend my time travelling across the East Midlands visiting customers’ homes and assessing what repair work needs doing following a case of damp, mould or condensation, or a disrepair for example. I’m relishing the change and learning new skills too. There’s always opportunity for further training at NCHA – it’s been great for me.”

Lee, alongside his colleague Paul, has recently completed the Housing Health and Safety Rating System course. HHSRS is used across England and Wales to assess and record any potential risks or hazards found in homes. It provides assurance that our customers’ homes are inspected and scored against a nationally recognised health and safety standard.
