Apprenticeship and Skills Development

We've been shortlisted for an award

Our Property Maintenance Operative apprenticeship programme has been shortlisted for an Apprenticeship and Skills Development Award - recognising the strength of our partnership with Access Training, and the real learning and career opportunities we offer at NCHA.

A strong mix of practical and classroom learning

The programme blends hands on experience within our Property Services teams with expert workshop and classroom training from Access Training. Apprentices gain practical skills across multiple trades, along with essential knowledge in building safety, preventative maintenance and fault finding.

Sound good? We’re recruiting for a new round of apprentices right now. Find out more and apply.

Real progression and positive feedback

Since 2022, ten apprentices have joined the programme, with many progressing into specialist roles including joinery, plumbing and gas. Resident feedback has been extremely positive, highlighting the professionalism and quality of work apprentices deliver on site.

More ways to develop your skills

Alongside this apprenticeship success, Access Training also delivers a full range of CIH recognised housing qualifications – increasingly important as the Competence and Conduct Standard becomes mandatory for senior housing staff from October 2026.

A commitment to skill development

Access Training – which we co own with Futures Housing Group – shares our commitment to developing skilled, confident tradespeople who help maintain safe, high quality homes across the East Midlands.

The programme has been shortlisted in the Apprenticeship & Skills Development category at the People in Housing Awards Midlands 2026.

The winners will be announced on 19 March in Birmingham – watch this space!
