Meet Beverly, one of our amazing Mental Health Support Workers. She joined us in June 2023, looking for a new challenge, and found a career that’s both rewarding and full of purpose.
Based mainly at our Blyth Street service, Beverly supports people with mental health needs as they work towards becoming more independent. Every day is different, and that’s what she loves most, no two shifts are ever the same. From chatting over a cuppa to helping someone set goals and achieve them, Beverly plays a vital role in people’s recovery journeys.
“I wanted to help people from all walks of life,” Beverly says. “Working in mental health has helped me grow my confidence, skills and knowledge. It’s incredibly fulfilling to know I’m making a real difference.”
At NCHA, support workers like Beverly are trained in everything from safeguarding and first aid to medication and support planning. Teamwork is key, she regularly works with social workers, nurses, and housing teams to make sure each person’s care is joined up and tailored to them.
We’re proud of our person-centred approach. Beverly makes sure her clients are always involved in their support plans and encourages them to take part in activities and decisions that build their confidence and wellbeing.
It’s not always easy, mental health work comes with challenges. But with patience, empathy, strong communication skills, and the support of a great team, you can help people through even the toughest days.
