Affordable, energy saving homes for Ollerton
Seven new two-bedroomed homes are taking shape on a disused piece of land off Newark Road in Ollerton, Nottinghamshire.
The new homes will be packed full of environmentally friendly products and let at an affordable rent to local families through Newark and Sherwood’s choice based lettings programme.
It’s an exciting project for NCHA, the first one that we’ll have delivered completely from start to finish. Every stage of the project, from idea conception, design, through to build and landscaping has been managed by our teams.
Allan Fisher, Director of Development and Assets at NCHA comments: “This site is an important step in our long-held vision of delivering new-build housing, in-house, from start to finish. At NCHA we are committed to building over 420 affordable homes across the East Midlands every year. We hope that this completely in-house project will be the start of many. Doing everything ourselves will not only help support us in our home building plans, but it will deliver new homes for people who need them the most.”
Some of the people involved came together last week to celebrate the beginning of the physical build. A beautiful site backing on to Ollerton Pit wood, silver birch trees will provide a natural backdrop to the new homes.
In keeping with our ambition to improve the sustainability and energy performance of our homes, green energy solutions will be installed. The site will be gas free and solar-generated power will help reduce the cost of heating the homes. It’s expected that at times the solar panels will generate more power than the homes will be using; special batteries will be installed to store this excess power for later use. This will result in greatly reduced carbon emissions and energy costs for the residents.
We’ll be monitoring how much energy the homes produce and use, to help plan for future new energy efficient homes.
This development is the first stage of the ‘NCHA Build’ project, part of our Fit for 50 programme.
