Remembering Victory in Europe Day
Let’s celebrate our heroes, past and present.
Friday 8 May marks the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (VE Day), which took place on 8 May 1945, the day after Nazi Germany’s surrender during World War II.
It marked almost six years of conflict where many people had contributed to the war effort in service to their country.
For many it was often a day of mixed emotions, with some hanging bunting during huge street parties throughout the day and others remembering those that they’d lost.
In a lot of ways, we imagine that the mixed emotions then are similar to the sentiment across the country today, with rainbows in windows and praise for solidarity amidst the pain of losing loved ones and looming uncertainty.
To celebrate this year we’re lucky to have an article by one of our employees sharing a bit about their family history and another sharing family photos through our social media channels, so be sure to look out for that.
We’ll also be sharing some photos from teams across the business to see what they’re getting up to, so keep an eye on our social media channels over the next few days.
This year, we’ll not only be supporting our elderly customers to celebrate, but using it as a day to remember that the only way we can get through difficult times is together.
