International Womens Day 2019

Better the balance, better the world.

We’re supporting International Women’s Day, with this year’s theme being ‘Balance for Better’ highlighting the importance of creating a more gender balanced world.

In support of the campaign, we held a sponsored walk from Hubbards Hill to Spout Yard in Louth today to raise awareness of domestic abuse and support services available in the local area.

All proceeds from the walk will go to the East Lindsey Domestic Abuse Service, helping us to provide a more comprehensive service for our residents and open access courses in our local community for those living with domestic abuse.

The ‘Balance for Better’ theme doesn’t end after International Women’s Day, but runs all year long. It’s not just a woman’s issue, but more a worldwide call for gender-balanced boardrooms, a gender-balance of employees, a gender-balanced government and balanced representation in the media, in order for communities and economies to grow.

Colette O’Neill, Contracts Manager for domestic abuse, homelessness and young person’s schemes, comments: “International Women’s Day celebrates the achievements of women and calls for collective action and shared ownership for driving gender parity. I’m incredibly proud of our specialist domestic abuse services including East Lindsey Domestic Abuse Service, Derbyshire WISH and Umuada as well as our managers, refuge support workers, outreach support workers, children’s workers, counselling coordinators, volunteer counsellors, volunteer advocates, befrienders and our colleagues who work with ex-perpetrators. Every day they work with adults and children affected by domestic abuse to redress power imbalance and work towards freedom from the current and ongoing effects of abuse.”
