A new, unexpected opportunity

In 2020, we formed a new Customer Committee dedicated to keeping customers at the heart of our decision-making. Since then, they’ve been getting stuck in, including starting to form new customer panels.

Currently, we’re recruiting customers to chair these panels. Angela, one of our Customer Committee members, is encouraging others to get involved:

“I’m not 100% sure if I knew what I was getting into when I applied to be a Customer Committee member.

“I’d gone onto the NCHA website for something completely different and ended up reading the jobs and volunteering section. I was curious about the Customer Committee member role, so I decided to apply and see what it entailed.

“I’m a stay-at-home mum to three teenage boys, and lately I’ve had too much free time on my hands! I needed a new challenge.

“Since applying, and to my big surprise getting the job, I’ve learned so much about social housing and what goes on behind the scenes at a housing association.

“I’m still really new to the process, but I’ve had so much help from my NCHA colleagues, other committee members and the training courses I’ve been on.

“Right now there are new opportunities for people to chair the new customer panels.

“If this is something you’re thinking about doing go for it, even if you're unsure of what’s expected or how the role will fit into your life. I’m excited to see where my role will lead me and I’m sure you’ll feel the same too!”
