Upskilling on the job
In Ollerton, we’re building seven homes as part of a new affordable housing development. It’s our first in-house project, where we’re doing everything from start to finish including:
- Idea conception
- Design
- Development
- Contract management
- Building
- Landscaping.

Having the opportunity to work on the construction site in Ollerton has been something I wanted to do since hearing about the project. I wanted to expand my joinery knowledge as for most of my career I’ve been mainly repairing or improving existing houses. As part of my personal progression I have been enrolled on a SMSTS qualification. With this and support from the wider team, hopefully I’ll run my own site in the future.

Since the site has started, I’ve learnt a lot about the latest building regulations, how buildings are built and what needs to be done at different stages. I’ve also been able to watch how the contractors work to carry out different tasks. I’m looking forward to seeing the job through to completion and getting a better understanding of the modern building process along the way.
