Helping those in need
Lindsey first heard about NCHA when she was offered a placement during her college course.
As a single mum in her 30s, Lindsey went back to college as she decided she wanted to work in care and support. On completing her course in 2006, she joined NCHA as a Relief Worker. The hours were flexible and she was able to work around school hours. However, since then she’s been able to develop further, currently leading one of our independent living schemes.
Lindsey explains: “In 2008, I was asked to cover the previous Scheme Manager at Ben Mayo, an independent living scheme for older people in Nottingham. I am still here and really can’t see myself leaving!”
“It is a fun, jokey relaxed scheme where we all get on. All residents are referred to us and are from the local area. Those coming off the streets are referred by Framework who support them during their transition. These residents need help rebuilding their confidence and mental health.”
“I like to help those most in need. I can tell from experience those that really want to make a difference to their future.”
Lindsey has built connections with all the residents and can’t see herself doing any other job. The role can be challenging, but it’s really rewarding.
