Starts at Home

Today we’re celebrating the Starts at Home campaign, highlighting the work our supported living projects across NCHA and UK wide. As such, we’ve taken the time to re-evaluate this key issue, speaking to some of our customers, who have hugely benefited from supported housing.

Dale Street: Tyler’s recovery from mental health

Tyler* managed his own business and live independently, until issues with mental health made it difficult for him to manage everyday life, resulting in the lost of his home and business. As a result, Tyler quickly became homeless, rough sleeping in his local area for a few years.

However, after accessing local mental health services, he was able to secure a place at Dale street, where he received support from our staff to successfully move to independent living when he felt ready.

Additionally, our Support Management and Response Team (SMaRT) were able to assist with support during the evening via their hardwired telecare system. In the event where Tyler needed more face to face support, SMaRT were able to provide a physical response to this out of hours.
As such, when Tyler felt ready to live independently, he requested that the SMaRT Team continues to support him, by installing a dispersed lifeline, so he could still access support when out in the community.

Our team at Dale Street were able to work with SMaRT to coordinate a support plan. Tyler also has the ability to call SMaRT when he needs emotional support or reassurance during the night. SMaRT can also liaise with specialist mental health teams and emergency services in critical times to provide further support if needed.

Therefore, Tyler has been able to remain independent, by being better able to detect when he is becoming unwell and ensuring that he is seeking the appropriate support as needed.

Take a look at the Dale street webpage and the SMaRT webpage for more on the services we provide.
