Starts at Home Day 2019: Reuniting long lost friends

One of the best things about supported housing is that it helps to bring people in the local community together.

Pat and David were reunited a couple of years ago at one of our service user Christmas parties. They used to attend school together and were childhood sweethearts, but lost touch years ago.

However, they were able to rekindle their relationship, with the help of our employees, who assisted their move from independent accommodation, to a supported housing complex. This enabled them to live independently whilst keeping in contact with each other.

Since then they’ve been able to develop their relationship and have gone on many day trips together, such as their trip to London, featured in the spring 2019 edition of Voicebox magazine.

This is just one of the great examples of what supported housing can do, take a look at some other great examples, below:

  • We’ve assisted customers to get healthy, by helping with essential skills, such as cooking and preparing food.
  • We’ve helped customers to follow their dreams, by helping them to develop their computer skills.
  • We’ve helped customers to do more of the things they enjoy, by supporting them to buy a bike or get involved in activities in the community.
