NCHA joins Foyer Federation

There has been an exciting change in the Young Person’s Service projects run by NCHA at both Grantham and Loughborough. Formerly known as London Road (Grantham) and Charnwood (Loughborough), these projects run by the Housing with Care and Support arm of NCHA will now be known as Grantham Foyer and Loughborough Foyer respectively.

Foyers were first developed in the 1990’s in the UK to create projects that tackled high youth unemployment by addressing the no home = no job = no home cycle for 16- 25 year olds. There are Foyers all over the world first originating in France and now as far flung as Australia. The ’Foyer’ concept is a process of holistic support in a community based setting and offers a powerful vision for social change.

The Foyer Federation is a UK-wide umbrella body linking operational and developing Foyers together. Its brief is to influence Government policy to better meet the needs of disadvantaged young people, to promote Foyers and their work to key stakeholders, to ensure that good practice and innovation is shared, to secure funding for Foyer work, and to ensure the quality of Foyer work through the Foyer Accreditation System.

Grantham Foyer has taken the lead and its assessment based on the Foyer Accreditation will go to the formal panel at the Foyer Federation in September and Loughborough Foyer is currently working towards its accreditation.
