The fastest rural house builder in the UK

Building houses quickly is something all good housing developers look to do, but when it comes to rural developments, this often isn’t possible. So, Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) is particularly proud of its latest development that opened in Market Overton, Rutland earlier this month, as it achieved a nationwide ground-breaking build time of just 19 months. Chair of the Leicestershire and Rutland Rural Partnership, Lesley Pendleton, said she wished that all rural schemes could be accomplished so quickly and easily.

NCHA worked closely with the local authorities and the Rural Housing Enabler to gain planning permission to build in a region dominated by green belt land. In an area where homes can range from anything up to the million pound mark, this £1million development, has provided nine homes for local people with five houses and two flats for rent and two houses for shared ownership.

And the homes have been warmly received locally. Parish Council Clerk John Southerington commented “There is always a fear that new homes won’t fit into what is a very traditional village but we have all been pleasantly surprised by the quality of the build. Keeping young families in the village keeps emmployment in the village too. The Parish Council would have no hesitation in considering new homes in the future.”

Carrying out the honours on the day were Father and son Chris and Dominic Walker in memory of Chris’ parents after whom the development has been named. Vic Walker and his wife Margaret were parish and county councillors of long standing at Market Overton and the village had asked for Walker Close to be the name chosen for the homes.
