Hat-trick of awards for original thinking

Nottingham Community Housing Association and agency Purple Circle – also born and bred in Nottingham – were celebrating their third joint national design award of the autumn on Thursday.

First off, NCHA’s tribute to former Chief Executive Andrew Malone, won them silver in the Fresh awards, a national competition for the best of British design in print. This was closely followed by a silver in the Roses awards for their ‘Housing Manifesto for the East Midlands’ written to celebrate the 40th anniversary of ‘Cathy Come Home’.

The crowning glory came on 8 November when the ‘Housing Manifesto’ won Gold at the prestigious Cream awards. Making their 3rd appearance in 4 years there, recognition was given by the judges for the continued original thinking from the successful pairing.

“Social housing doesn’t normally notch up many awards in design, so to keep on winning them is a tribute to both NCHA’s original thinking and Purple Circle’s superb interpretation and design” said Debs Ramsden, Communications Manager of NCHA.

Tribute was also paid to Colin Tuck, former Director of Design and Corporate Services, who retired from NCHA earlier this year. The brains behind both winning formulas, Colin was the driving force behind a whole raft of design awards, with these latest wins bringing the tally to ten in the last nine years.
