Community safety a priority for NCHA

As one of the major landlords in north Nottinghamshire, Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) takes responsibility for the safety and welfare of its tenants, whatever their age.

As part of a pilot initiative to promote community safety in Ollerton, NCHA in partnership with the Children’s Safety Education Foundation, will be sponsoring an education programme throughout the next academic year at Dukeries College.

The Children’s Safety Education Foundation works to raise the awareness of child safety through education programmes in schools. The foundation doesn’t receive government funding, so all financial support is provided by the partner organisation, and in this case that’s NCHA.

The education programme covers many aspects of safety awareness, working on the belief that prevention is better than cure for the teenage pupils. Amongst the topics covered are: peer pressure, crime prevention, alcohol, drugs and solvent mis-use, car crime, personal safety and anti-social behaviour.

NCHA’s Anti-Social Behaviour Officer, Geoff Pittham said,
"We’ve chosen to pilot this project at Dukeries College as it’s in an area where we have a very high number of tenants with children. We hope that this project will enable up to 250 pupils to study this education programme and hopefully it will have a positive effect on the communities in this area".
