New term for Barnby Road

Patrick Mercer OBE, MP for Newark and Sherwood, will officially open a development of 20 new affordable homes at Barnby Road, Newark, on Friday 1st May. Once again, Nottingham Community Housing Association has partnered with Newark and Sherwood District Council to develop the new homes.

Built on the former site of Barnby Road Primary School, the development consists of ten three-bedroomed houses and ten two-bedroomed houses. Four of these are being marketed as intermediate rent to Homebuy; renting with a view to buying the property in the future.

Patrick Mercer MP has said, "I am very pleased to be opening this development, which I regard as being a model of its kind".

With the purpose built primary school now open across the road, the homes are in an excellent position for young families. The properties are also situated within easy walking distance of Newark town centre.

NCHA will take responsibility for managing the properties and all nominations for the 16 rented homes will come from Newark and Sherwood District Council.

Newark and Sherwood District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Health and Homes Councillor David Payne said: “Affordable housing has never been more important. As the country fights through this economic downturn we, as a council, are doing what we can to provide affordable homes for families and individuals who need help at this time. Working with our partner NCHA, the council has helped to create 20 new homes close to facilities and amenities in Newark.”

The entire development cost nearly £3 million, more than a third of which came from a Homes and Communities Agency grant. NSDC donated £36,000 and NCHA financed the remainder. The development was designed by Brian Dearlove Partnership and built by Westleigh Developments Limited.
