We’re celebrating National Apprenticeship Week

This week is National Apprenticeship Week, a five day annual celebration of apprenticeships in England.
To celebrate the campaign, we caught up with four new apprentices in our Property Services department, Ryonde Swan, Sam Denby, Harry Jones and William Doar, who joined us last year, to see how they’re getting on.
The apprentices are all focusing on a slightly different trade from plumbing and joinery to gas and electrical services, attending college one day a week and then spending the rest of their time training on the job, by shadowing colleagues with extensive experience in their chosen trade.

Sam finished college in 2016 and now works full-time as a Domestic Heating Apprentice. At the moment she’s our only female apprentice. Sam said: “Being the only female apprentice just makes me want to work harder to prove I can do it. Just because I’m a woman, it doesn’t mean I can’t do what everyone else can do. After all, once I’ve finished training I’ll be out doing the job on my own.”

Ryonde, who works as an Electrical Installation Apprentice, told us more about his experience: “I originally did sports science and wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. That’s when I got some advice from my father and decided to get a trade – a skill for life. I’m so glad I did as I love what I do”.
