Electrical Fire Safety Week

How switched on are you?

We’re helping our customers to brush up on their electrical safety knowledge as part of the Electrical Fire Safety Week campaign taking place from 18 – 24 November.

Nine out of ten accidental fires are caused by electrical products in the UK.

Taking simple precautions within your home and ensuring that your electrical appliances are checked regularly can help to keep both your home and loved ones safe.

So we’ve included some key tips on electrical fire safety as recommended by the Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue service:
  • Never overload sockets or extension leads.
  • Look out for frayed cables or wires and never use electrical products with exposed wiring.
  • Never charge mobile phones or other devices overnight underneath pillows, instead make sure they are on a solid surface.
  • Switch off all applications that are not being used.
  • Do not run cables underneath carpets / rugs.
  • Make sure that all the products you purchase have a British or European safety mark.
