Case Study3 - Sarah Holmes

Part-Time Rents Administration Assistant
Housing Services, Ollerton

After leaving school at 16, I joined a youth training scheme as a trainee administrator at a personal lift company. I mainly worked within the finance and service departments, where I learnt basic administration tasks and went to college one day a week to gain my BTEC in Business and Finance.

After completing my two-year programme, I felt it was time to move on to pastures new. I had enjoyed working within the finance environment and decided this was the way to go, so I joined a mobile phone company as a finance assistant. As the company grew I found myself moving within the company until I eventually became the finance manager at the Peterborough office.

In April 1998 I decided to move on, and that was when I joined NCHAs finance department as a finance assistant. In my new role, I worked in the special services section where I was responsible for processing all of the Housing with Care Support projects weekly and monthly returns, and taking care of all the payments to our private sector landlords. While I have been working here I have used NCHAs training and equal opportunities policies to further my knowledge andcareer.

In 2001 I had my first baby and took advantage of NCHAs maternity leave policy. When I returned to work I was able to come back on a part time basis to start with, with the intention of returning to my full time position within six months. During this time, I decided I wanted to work part time permanently which I discussed with my manager and Personnel. While the job-share for my post was being sorted out, a job was advertised internally for a part time rents administration officer at the Ollerton office. I decided to apply as I felt that I was ready for a new challenge and the job seemed to fit all my criteria of being able to work part time with less travelling and a new and exciting role within NCHA.

I was successful in getting the job and have been at the Ollerton office for three years. I am enjoying my new role with new things happening every day, and am looking forward to many more years at NCHA.
