Case Study1 - Helen Clipsham
IT Trainer
Human Resources Department Training
I began working for NCHA in June 2000 joining the Housing with Care Support Team (HWCS) as an administrative assistant. Prior to starting with NCHA I had worked as an office junior and also worked for a number of temp agencies.
When I started with NCHA, I had a few GCSEs to my name along with an NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration. After a year with HWCS, I began my NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration, which I have now completed. During the time I spent working in HWCS, I was given the opportunity to take on many projects, from designing new spreadsheets to training over 100 staff on the IBS housing management computer system. These were varied tasks which I really enjoyed doing and I received a lot of support and encouragement from my colleagues.
This led me to apply for the post of IT trainer within the Training Department when it was advertised internally. I was successful in obtaining the position and started in August 2004. I am now doing a job that I love. The transition from HWCS to training is exciting, but also very challenging. With the help and support of the training department staff, I am looking forward to making progress in my work and will soon be undertaking other qualifications including the ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence) to help with my role.
