NCHA Case Study: Local landmark recognised at Westminster
Nottingham Community Housing Association has been presented with a prestigious Green Plaque in recognition of being one of the top winners in this year’s National Green Apple Awards for the Built Environment. They beat off more than 500 entries to win the Bronze award for their project at Hartington Street, in Loughborough.
Winners were presented with their trophies at the House of Commons by former Bond girl and property expert Fiona Fullerton, who has her own property show on Sky TV.
Commenting on the winning entry, the Green Apple Award judges said “A refurbished railway warehouse now houses a development of 13 three-storey houses that feature innovative renewable energy. Photovoltaic tiles will provide up to 25% of electricity requirements and the basement was filled in to create back gardens, where the rear third of the warehouse was demolished.”
This is the sixth year of the Green Apple Awards for the Built Environment and Architectural Heritage, now regarded as one of the major building and architectural reward schemes in Europe. The awards are supported by the Environment Agency, the Chartered Institute of Wastes Management, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and numerous other official bodies.
