Article Title:FIRST AFFORDABLE PVs IN PEAK PARK

In another successful bid to try and halt the decline of rural England, Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) has gained approval to build eight new homes in the Derbyshire countryside.

The Peak District National Park Authority has given the green light for eight two and three bedroomed houses for affordable rent on agricultural land off Brentwood Avenue in Bamford in the Peak District National Park.

Planning committee chair Councillor Hilda Gaddum said "The homes will help address a local need for 32 affordable homes revealed in a 2006 high Peak Borough Council survey. Although the Authority prefers developments not to encroach on fields, in Bamford there was little alternative - this was the best available location with the least impact on the village and the landscape of the national park."

NCHA's design will reflect the local traditional building style and in a first for affordable homes in the Peak Park, will include solar photo-voltaic cells to provide cost-effective renewable energy, as well as water butts for the gardens.

The scheme was supported by High Peak Borough Council, Bamford Parish Council and the Friends of the Peak District.
