Thanks to new technology and some willing volunteers, Nottingham Community Housing Association’s (NCHA) new solar collector pilot project has saved elderly tenants in New Ollerton over £45.00 per month on their fuel bills.
The project team paid a special visit to present Mrs Moffat in New Ollerton, with a bunch of flowers, as she volunteered her home to take part in the project and has been one of the first to benefit from the subsequent cost savings.
NCHA’s Maintenance team started the pilot project in March 2007 when 20 properties from the Brake View estate in New Ollerton were fitted with Vaillant’s auroTHERM exclusive solar collectors, a leading brand of solar collectors across Europe.
Within the first six months of installation, NCHA’s Maintenance team are already measuring promising results.
On average the solar collectors have collected 2281 kw/h, this resulted in an overall saving of £47.87 per month, (although the saving will vary slightly depending on a tenant’s electricity supplier). Each of the 20 properties will also contribute to an average carbon emissions saving of 250-500kg per property, per year.
