Notice of Scheme to amend the Area of Benefit of Nottingham Community Almshouse Charity

This is notice of the intention to widen the area of benefit of Nottingham Community Almshouse Charity (“the charity”) (charity number 214040) which is under the trusteeship of Nottingham Community Housing Association and merge the charity known as Warner’s Almshouses (charity number 217085) (“Warners”) into the charity

The current area of benefit of the charity is the City of Nottingham and the County of Nottinghamshire. As a result of the proposed widening of the area of benefit, the area of benefit would be extended to the East Midlands, namely the counties of Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Derbyshire, Rutland and Lincolnshire. This would enable the merger into the charity of Warners which is situated in Leicestershire as well as allowing the charity to accept responsibility for the management of other almshouses outside of Nottinghamshire.

In future, beneficiaries of the charity will be people who a) are in need, hardship or distress; and b) are or have been resident in the East Midlands. Generally, however, a preference will be given to those who would have met the original definition of beneficiary for each home run by the charity. The proposal to widen the area of benefit will not have any adverse effect on the present inhabitants of the almshouses which currently form part of the charity.

In relation to Warners, it is currently set up to benefit deserving persons who worked in the hosiery trade in Loughborough, or other applicants who are resident in Loughborough or have previously worked in Loughborough. As a result of the merger future beneficiaries (those who can seek admittance to the almshouses) will be people who a) are in need, hardship or distress; and b) are or have been resident in the area of benefit (being the counties of the East Midlands) with a preference being given to those who worked in the hosiery trade in Loughborough, or other applicants who are resident in Loughborough or have previously worked in Loughborough. The merger will not have any adverse effect on the present inhabitants of Warners.

The Trustee of Nottingham Community Almshouse Charity welcomes any representations made to them by contacting Gillian Sladen on 0345 6501203 or by email to info@ncha.org.uk

The consultation will close on Monday 14th January 2019.
