Background Information

What We Are

In addition to the general needs rented homes, NCHA has a separate department called Housing with Care and Support (HWCS) which provides specialist housing as its name suggests.

NCHA had already managed a number of care and support schemes, previously known as "special projects", but in 1993 the separate department was set up in response to the changes in legislation following the Community Care Act 1990.

The turnover for Housing with Care and Support in the financial year 2006/2007 was £22 million.

Where We Are

In total HWCS provides just over 1500 bed spaces of accommodation in over 250 properties for people with housing and support/care needs. It is the largest single Housing Association provider of such accommodation in the East Midlands region covering Nottingham City, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Wakefield, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire.

Who We Are

We have nearly 700 directly employed staff.

NCHA has a union recognition agreement with UNISON and MSF.

NCHA is committed to staff development at all levels and it holds the ’Investors in People’ accreditation. All staff have a formal induction and training appropriate to their job. HWCS also have a system of formal performance management which supports individual staff members’ personal development plans.
