NCHA has developed a number of exciting and innovative schemes.
The scheme is a refurbishment of a warehouse in the centre of Loughborough. The development is a set of terraced three storey family homes. NCHA secured funding from the PhotoVoltaic Solar Grants Programme to put PhotoVoltaic tiles on the roofs.
This project is a development of three bungalows for service users within our housing with care and support department. A grant has been secured from the Clear Skies programme to develop a biomass heating system at the scheme. This is a heating and hot water system fired by wood pellets from a sustainable resource. This will provide an affordable and controllable means of heating for the service users.
The unique glazed streets that link together sets of bungalows act as giant thermal buffer zones to minimise heat loss in winter and maximise heat gain in summer. Super insulated walls, roofs and floors and highly efficient gas boilers combine with the glazed streets to give an NHER rating of 10 and projected heating and hot water bills of £1 per week.
This project combines the use of environmentally friendly and sustainable materials with highly energy efficient design to produce an NHER rating of 10. The project was developed in conjunction with Nottingham Environmental Construction and Training for All (NECTA), which utilised a local unemployed workforce in the construction process, as part of New Deal for Communities.
NCHA has delivered a scheme at Green Lane in Clifton, Nottingham which is a complex of 44 bungalows which has 22 of its south-facing homes fitted with the latest photovoltaic solar panels. Photovoltaics (PV) produce electricity by directly converting sunlight (without burning fossil fuels) resulting in no carbon emissions harmful to the environment and minimum cost.
This is a development of highly insulated timber framed properties, featuring grey water recycling.
